Welcome to Maharashtra National Law University Aurangabad (MNLU Aurangabad)

The State of Maharashtra realizing the importance of quality legal education and need of well-trained law graduates to the Bar, Bench and professions took a very bold decision by creating three National Law Universities in the State of Maharashtra at Mumbai, Nagpur and Aurangabad. Further all the three are independent and autonomous institutions created under the Maharashtra National Law University Act,2014. The latest one added to the list of National Law Universities in India is the Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad, commenced from March16, 2017. The commencement of the University has fulfilled the aspirations of the people of the Marathwada region for an institution of national importance in Aurangabad. The law university is set to make a beginning with admissions from the Academic Year 2017-18. The University entered into an MOU with the Convenor, CLAT 2017 to make admissions from the merit list of the qualified CLAT-2017 aspirants. The authorities are making all efforts to make the admissions and to provide all facilities to the students who take admission in MNLU-Aurangabad.

Born on 18th November, 1954. Joined the Bar in 1978. Practised mainly in the Gauhati High Court. Appointed as Permanent Judge of Gauhati High Court on 28th February, 2001. Transferred to Punjab & Haryana High Court on 9th September, 2010. Appointed as Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court on 12th February, 2011. Elevated as Judge of the Supreme Court on 23rd April, 2012.


Prof. (Dr.) S. Surya Prakash,
Vice-Chancellor

Dr. S. Surya Prakash, took the charge of Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad on 16th March, 2017, earlier was working as Professor of Law, National Law Institute University, Bhopal. He had more than 25 years experience in academics and worked as Lecturer, Principal, DNR College of Law, Bhimavaram, AP, Faculty Member of NUJS, Kolkata and Principal, Law college, Nanded, Maharashtra before joining in NLIU, Bhopal. He obtained his B.L. from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, A.P. and Master of Law from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, A.P. with first class in the area of Labour and industrial Law. He was also awarded the University Prize' V.N. Deekhitulu Award" for securing highest marks in the branch of Labour laws. Later he was awarded Ph.D. in law from Berhampur University, Odisha.

Prof. Surya Prakash is a prolific writer and wrote on several contemporary issues. His first work on 'Bonded Labour and Social Justice' was published by Deep and Deep Publishers, New Delhi(1990) and forwarded by Hon'ble Justice M. Jagannadha Rao, Judge, High Court of A.P. later became Judge, Supreme Court and Chairman, Law commission of India. He is also the author of 'Turning Point' The Story of a Law Teacher, (2009) the biography of Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon, which also the story of National Law school movement in India. He has edited two books on 'Critical Issues on International Commercial Arbitration'(2012) and 'Perspectives on Mediation'(2012). He wrote 25 articles on various subjects including bonded labour, child labour, trade unions, sexual harassment of woman at work place, Indian Judiciary, Plea bargaining, mediation, International commercial arbitration, Human rights in reputed law journals. He presented more than 30 research papers in various national and International seminars and conferences. He also did Projects for DFID-GVT on Inter-state Migrant Labour, (2007) involved in Report writing of Project on Access to Justice,(2009) for the High Court of M.P. Prof. Surya Prakash prepared the Manual on Health Laws(2008) and Compendium on Agriculture and allied laws(2013) for the State of Madhya Pradesh. He is the founder editor of "Indian Law Review" Law journal of NLIU, Bhopal. (2009-2017).

Prof. Surya Prakash was invited by the State Department, USA under the auspices of International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP) to study "U.S. Judicial System' in 2010. The visit provided insights into US Judicial system including Judicial Training at Federal Judicial Centre, Washington, Michigan State Judicial Centre, Lansing and also the legal education in USA.

He was also the Founder- Chairperson, Centre for Business and Commercial Law and the Faculty in charge, ADR Cell of NLIU, Bhopal. His areas of interest include Jurisprudence, ADR, International commercial Arbitration labour laws, Business Laws, and Health Law.

Dr. Tanaya Tarai
OSD (Academics)

Dr. Tanaya Tarai is the Officer on Special Duty for academics at MNLU-Aurangabad. She has more than Seventeen years of teaching experience. Previously, she served as the Vice-Principal of Ganjam Law College. She has done her Ph.D. in Law from Berhampur University, Odisha. She has taught courses like Contracts, Administrative Law, Intellectual Property Rights Law, etc. She has a number of publications in reputed law journals on topics like Copy Right to Computer Software a Legal Studies, Rights or Curse in Disguise, Abuse of Position and Rights of Girl Child, Protection of Rights of Migrant Labours- With reference to Odisha, The National and International Norms and Treaties for Old age Protection, Identifying Common Strength for Legal Aid and Legal Empowerment to strengthen Access to Justice in India, Supreme Court rules over cooling period for divorce under Hindu Marriage Act, Free legal Aid in India & Role of Judiciary, Martal Rape:A Comparative International Legal Studies, Advantage of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility): A Case Study on Development programme in Tribal Areas of Odisha and Jharkhand and also authored several books dealing with the issues of women, children, and South Asian Trade Laws & Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade to her credit. She was also working as Legal Officer in a Sri Lanka bassed company, served as Social Worker for the Lok-Adalat cases and associated with the District Legal Services Authority as a Trainer to the PLVs.



Dr. Prakash S. Bansod
Librarian

Dr. Prakash S. Bansod completed his M.A. Sociology in 1979 from Dr. BAMU, Aurangabad with First Class. He also completed his M. Lib. ISC in 1989 Dr. BAMU, Aurangabad with First Class.He obtained Ph. D. in Library and Information Science from Dr. BAMU, Aurangabad in the year 2013. He has written 2 books and published various papers in research journals and conferences. Before joining Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad, he worked with the Govt. College of Education, IASE, Aurangabad. He has 33 years of experience in rendering active library services. .



Milind Vithal Mahajan
Finance & Accounts Officer(Contract Basis)

Milind Vithal Mahajan completed his PG Diploma in Finance & Tax Management from Barkatullah University, Bhopal (MP) in the year 1998. He completed his B. Com. in the year 1997 and M. Com. in the year 2000 from Barkatullah University, Bhopal (MP). Before joining the Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad, he has worked with the National Law Institute University, Bhopal as Accountant later as Manager Accounts with the M/S Kumar Infratech & Construction P. Ltd. Bhopal and then has worked with M/S. UPL- Gharpure Engineering & Constructions Pvt. Ltd. as Sr. Manager Accounts (HOD Accounts) at Chinchwad, Pune (Maharashtra) Head Office. .
